All F-1 and J-1 students are required to check in with International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).  ISSS must validate arrivals of F-1 and J-1 students in SEVIS and failure to check in with ISSS could result in SEVIS termination.

Undergraduates, Exchange Students, and Graduate Students Admitted for Spring

Undergraduate students and exchange students will complete check-in on the day of their ISSS orientation.  In the spring semester, degree-seeking graduate students will also complete check-in at orientation.

Spring 2020 Check-In Schedule:

Undergraduate/Graduate Student Orientation and Check-In: Monday, Jan. 6 @ 10:00am

Exchange Student Orientation and Check-In: Tuesday, Jan. 7 @ 9:30am

Graduate Students Admitted for Fall: Sign Up for Check-In Online

Graduate students in F-1 or J-1 status beginning their academic program in the fall semester must sign up online in advance to attend a pre-scheduled check-in session at ISSS. Admitted students will be notified once the online sign-up form becomes available.

Bring the following original documents to ISSS Check-In:

  • Passport
  • Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 (For F-1 and J-1 Students)
  • Form I-94

To retrieve your Form I-94, go to Click on “Get Most Recent I-94”, read the terms and click on “Consent & Continue”, enter your passport details and click on “Next”. If you have any problem retrieving your I-94 or any other questions about this process, please ask an ISSS advisor during your scheduled check-in session or during walk-in advising hours.

Report your U.S. address before ISSS Check-In

Before arriving at ISSS for your check-in session, you should create or update the “SEVIS Immigration Reporting Address” in your Student Center in ConnectCarolina.  You must report your physical U.S. address (the address of where you are staying), even if temporary. If you move, you must report the new address within ten days of moving.  To review instructions on how to report this information, click here.

You must also report your phone number if it has changed.  Confirm that the phone number listed as the “Preferred” phone number in your Student Center in ConnectCarolina is correct.  If it is not or if you wish to report a different phone number as your “Preferred” phone number, correct the information or add a new number and check the box next to it to set it as the preferred number.
